What is an RSS Feed?

Rss Feeds

Depending on who you ask, RSS stands for either “Rich Site Summary” or “Really Simple Syndication.” But no matter what it’s called, RSS is a new way to publish information online using XML and is an easy way to view updates of your favorite websites. Many of the world’s newspapers eg The Wall St Journal, now offer RSS feeds for their top headlines.

Advantages of RSS
By supplying RSS code on your website, visitors can “subscribe” to the feed and automatically receive updates on their computers of new content on the site. RSS gives viewers control over receiving information they want without revealing information about themselves. RSS feeds can be read in a program called a news reader or news aggregator. There are many free versions available. Some like NewsGator deliver the feeds into Outlook, where they are formatted just like emails.
